Hey people!
I thought I posted about my April Sephora Play box but it appears that I didn’t. I did a video but it didn’t turn out that well. I also did not take any “unboxing” photos, sorry. I have included links to everything in this post to make it easy to find if there is anything that tickles your fancy! (not sponsored or affiliated).
This post is going to be a followup to the products I received in that box since it’s been about a month now. Let me backup. So for anyone that is unfamiliar, Sephora offers a monthly subscription service called Play. Each month they send a little box of sample sized makeup and/or skincare items from brands they carry including the Sephora brand. Also in the box is a sample fragrance and Play card. With the Play card you can rack up Sephora points to help you level up faster. The only catch is you have to physically go into a store and buy something before month end in order to use the Play card and get the extra bonus points.
Below is a list of the products I received.
- Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
- Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream Moisturizer
- Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment
- Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover
- Make Up For Ever Waterproof Eye Pencil
I have not tried out the Smashbox Photo Finish primer yet. I keep hearing glorious things about it so I will be getting around to it soon.
I am almost done with the moisturizer by Peter Thomas Roth. I hate to say it but it’s amazing! Very lightweight but still hydrating. Perfect for the summer. The full size of this baby is $52. If you are curious to try it, my suggestion would be to get a sample first or if you don’t want to fork out the $52. The Water Drop Hydrating moisturizer by Dr. Jart is VERY similar and its only $36.
I freaking LOVE the ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. It’s gently abrasive. What I mean by that is for the first 15 seconds you feel the exfoliating grains in the product. After that initial 15 seconds the grains start to dissipate and the exfoliator turns into a nice foam. It smells minty and wonderful. Just an amazing product. I have added it to my list of ‘loves’ on Sephora’s website to order once I run out of my current exfoliator.
To be completely honest, I have not even cracked open the Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. I don’t typically use a separate remover for my eye makeup. I work very long days and on the days I decide to wear makeup I just do my normal two-step cleansing which usually removes all of my makeup. Even my eye makeup. I will probably end up just giving this away.
Last but not least, I have not really used the Make Up For Ever eye pencil. It’s okay. Nothing special. I’ve gotten into using brown eye liners. They provide a much softer framing of the eye which I like much better than black. Sometimes black liners can be a bit harsh especially on the days where maybe I just throw on some mascara and eye liner and go on out the door. With that said, I have used the pencil twice. It’s a fairly firm pencil that is not notably smooth. The intensity of the pencil is very pigmented. But again, not worth $21. I think you can find better ones at the drugstore.
All in all the April Play box was okay. I made the mistake of looking at the March box which was amazing and set my standards way too high! I’m hoping for some lip products in the May box. Regardless, I will be sure to do a full blog post or video once I receive this months box.
