Dont Waste Your Money: January 2017

This will be a short one this month. I only have 1 product that disappointed me and it’s a heart-breaker. I love mostly everything from this brand. I’ve raved about it time and time again here on my blog. But their new line of athleisure skin care is a huge miss for me!

I’m talking about the Gym Bag Grabs Athleisure Essentials set from Tarte. Yes, my beloved Tarte has put out some hot trash! Let’s go product by product shall we.

In order from left to right:

1. The Fresh Eyes Maracuja Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Wipes. These are okay. They do a great job at removing eye makeup. However as someone who works out in the evening I’d prefer to have face cleansing wipes over eye cleansing wipes. I tried to use the wipes to remove makeup from my face after I removed it from my eyes but that was a no go!
2. Lifted Mascara (in Black Brown). Tarte makes one of my favorite mascara’s so I had high hopes for this. The package is to die for! The product however is not. There is a STRONG chemical smell as soon as you crack the top off the package. This is something that I am not used to from Tarte products. I assume the smell is because the mascara is waterproof. I don’t have experience with waterproof mascara’s so I can’t say that is the reason for sure. The mascara itself is very subtle which is what you want if you are wearing it while working out or going for that fresh faced, ‘I woke up like this’ look. I can’t tolerate the smell so this is a pass for me.
3. Brighter Days highlighting moisturizer. Good God! Where do I start. I hate this product! It may possibly be the worst moisturizer I’ve ever tried. Not because it doesn’t moisturize but because of the glitter that’s mixed in the moisturizer. I assume the purpose of the glitter/shimmer was to give the face a glow, a beam. Picture, running on that treadmill and just as your body starts to heat up, your face starts to perspire ever so slightly and the shimmer in the moisturizer you applied catches the light and keeps you looking like the run goddess you are. Got that visual? I assume that was the intended purpose of this moisturizer but LORD it’s horrendous. I applied a dime sized amount to the palm of my hand, rubbed it on my face. At first everything looked really nice. About 10 minutes later once the moisturizer had sunken in. All I was left with was glitter. I looked like The Man in the Iron Mask. It was terrible! This may work better for fair skin but on brown skin, DON’T DO IT!
4. Rainforest of the Sea™ Quench Lip Rescue in Nude. This is the only thing from this set that I fell in love with. My lips felt so soft and supple as soon as I applied this balm. Although the product in the tube looks like it is colored, its not. It goes on pretty sheer. I would highly recommend buying this on its own especially if you have issues with dry lips. It’s wonderful!
