Dairy Free or nah??????

Lent is coming up. For those who don’t know what Lent is, click the hyperlink and it will explain it in detail. A short synopsis is a 6 week period prior to Easter where people choose something in their lives to sacrifice in honor of the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert being tested by Lucifer.

I’ve ‘sacrificed’ everything over the years. Money, clothes, time. Last year I gave up meat and became vegetarian for Lent. It ended up morphing into me giving up red meat for good. This year I’m contemplating becoming Vegan or going dairy free. EEK!!!! I’m contemplating because whatever I commit to for Lent is meaningful and I take it seriously. It’s not something that I will change halfway through. Whatever the sacrifice is is what I will continue over the 6 weeks no matter what. So I make sure to take a few weeks prior to the start of Lent to think of something challenging yet doable to sacrifice.

My hesitation with becoming Vegan or going dairy free is CHEESE! I love CHEESE and BUTTER! I can do without milk and eggs but cheese and butter! Yes please! All the time! On everything!

I’m not sure if I’m strong enough to make such a big commitment. I don’t want to choose something that I could potentially fail at. At the same token this is suppose to be a sacrifice right? Every year should be harder than the last right? Shouldn’t I continue to push myself, push the levels of sacrifice I’m willing to go to for Jesus? Part of me thinks if the thought of going dairy free or vegan makes me this uncomfortable, this is what I should do. I don’t want to take the easy road. I want to push myself to be better, do better, and grow closer to God. I want to push myself to be healthier and perhaps inspire those around me to try something different. I have until February 9th to decide what I am going to do. February 10th is the start of the Lenten season. We will see what I’m moved to do when the time comes. In the mean time I’m going to live it up through Fat Tuesday!

Is anyone reading this vegan or dairy free? If so I would love to know your thoughts, hear about your experience, and/or words of wisdom. Also, don’t forget to Like, Share, and click that FOLLOW button below.
