My Speakerboxx

I know, I know. It’s been awhile since I’ve posted one of these. Partly because there was a stretch of time where no music was grabbing my attention. Well that’s changed. So I plan to be back with a few Speakerboxx highlights so stay tuned.

This Speakerboxx will highlight 2 albums that I l-o-v-e. The first one is kind of old but I still play it like it was just released yesterday.

img_6516Coloring Book by Chance The Rapper. I was familiar with his name but not necessarily his music. I’d heard nothing but good things whenever I heard his name mentioned but I never took the time to really pull up any of his music. Until this album was released!

I love how I feel when I listen to this album. It’s weird because one minute he’s rapping about God and blessings, the next minute he’s kicking someone out his car, and in the next minute threatening record labels but it all works! I feel so freaking happy anytime I play this album. Thank you Chance for this masterpiece!

The second album I’m sure you’ve heard of. If you haven’t I have no idea how you have not heard about it.

A Seat At the Table by Solange. I’ve been a huge fan of Solange’s since her first solo project. Solange march’s to the beat of her own drum. She does what she wants, says what she wants, wears what she wants and this album is no different. The overall tone of the album is laid-back but there is no shortage of subject matter. Make sure your ears are open and ready to digest all of what Solange is spitting!

My favorite song is F.U.B.U.

The last and final album I will be mentioning is…

Kairi Chanel by Dave East. To be completely honest, I had no idea who the hell Dave East was. All I knew was Nas kept promoting him on Instagram. Once my husband came home talking about it, I decided to give it a listen. Boy am I glad I did! This album is so hip hop. Old school, straight rap! No singing, no dancing on the track, no fluff. Again, straight rap!  (#6 is my favorite song).

Just a bit of background, Dave East is a 28 yr old rapper from East Harlem. He’s signed to Nas’ record label and previously released a mixtape titled Hate me now (10.2015).

If you’ve listened to any of these albums, let me know. And let me know what your favorite song is. I love talking music!
